Our Folkus Project
Objective
To provide musicians performing in the Folkus Room with recording equipment and a sound engineer to enable the live recording of their performance for the purpose of producing an audio CD.
Goals
To produce quality live recordings to red book specifications, allowing the artist to record a complete CD in one evening.
How do we Record?
16 tracks can be recorded simultaneously. Each track comes out of a Soundcraft GB 4 desk into a Mackie ONYX 1640 desk then sent via Firewire to a Macintosh computer using Cubase to capture each track. Microphone spill is minimal so the mix is kept clean, however it would be wise to promote the recording as a LIVE SET as applause will be heard.
Tips for a successful recording session
Performers need to arrive well before the show starts to setup and record a couple of takes to ensure levels are balanced. The amount of time required depends on the size of group recording. Know your material, be well rehearsed and most important! - the music will flow better if everyone in the group warms up before going on stage.
Fees
A set up fee of $250 is required up front. This will cover the recording of up to 16 songs and the mixing and mastering of one song of the performers choice. This song will be sent to the performer who will then have a choice to proceed with the mixing and mastering of the remainder of the songs. If the performer wishes to take away the raw Cubase files to mix and master themselves the cost will be $65 per song. The fee for mixing each song is $125. Mastering cost on average $90 per song. If six songs are required for demo purposes that the performer can burn at home the total cost would be $1325 ( $250 deposit plus $215 for five songs ) They will be sent a master CD burnt to red book specifications. A quality pressing of 500 CD’s including recording, mixing, mastering and artwork can be produced for $4500 up wards depending on individual requirements. We have good relations with MAD music who do an excellent job at pressing CD’s. We can also provide the services if required to have the CD artwork produced. These cost vary depending on what is required and will be quoted after discussions with the performer. Please Note, all prices quoted are subject to change. Please check with Kev before making final decisions.
To Sum Up
