The Second Annual Bush Traditions Gathering The Old Goulburn Brewery, Bungonia Road, Goulburn NSW a loooong weekend of music, dance, song and spoken word celebrating an Australian tradition
Friday 28 September to Monday 1 October 2007

Our 2007 gathering is the second of what we hope will become a landmark annual event in the world of Traditional Australian Music, Dance and Spoken Word.
By "Traditional Australian" we mean that style of stuff which was introduced to this fair land by those who settled here after 1770. Much has its roots in English, Irish and Scottish heritage but has evolved away from those influences through the isolated application of those who found themselves here to stay and from which roots they were permanently severed. That evolution has resulted in style and content which can now be described as uniquely Australian and it is the fruits of THAT heritage that we seek to celebrate and enjoy.
The weekend is designed to be a very informal "Gathering" (a sort of conference really) where this stuff can be played, performed, shared and talked about in an environment that will encourage a sense of being a part of the evolution.
The Old Goulburn Brewery, built around 1836, provides a great historical backdrop to the weekend.

The program for the weekend has some items included to give you an idea of the scope and variety of the offerings.
It is not a final document.
Suggestions and offers are welcome before and during the weekend.
The daily program will be on a blackboard and subject to changes.
The weekend is a convergence of people with an interest in our Australian traditions and a desire to participate.
Music and song sessions are intended to be inclusive so feel welcome to join in and to contribute.
Workshops are offered to focus on someone’s particular area of interest
– again, we want you to feel welcome and where appropriate join in discussion, playing etc.
Poetry is light on this year but if you would like to help coordinate some it would be most welcome.
The dance workshops will require live music.
To prepare for this, willing players will need to work with the caller to rehearse suitable music. Some of this will be worked out beforehand and the tunes made available in written form. Others will be workshopped and learnt before the dance workshop. Dances learnt at the dance workshops will be a part of the dance program at the evening dances
and the same musicians can provide the music as needed.
PA will be kept to a minimum for the weekend.
The venues are intimate enough for acoustic performance to be adequate.
The Tax Office Courtyard (weather permitting) and The Brewery will be kept free of any formal program and will provide space for conversation and general social activities that won’t interfere with the natural sound levels inside the buildings.
